USA Election Results

This blog is about the results of the US presidential elections. The starting point is the 1828 election when the candidate showed up as a Democrat for the first time(Republicans emerged in 1856) and when the popular vote was tabulated for the first time as well(1824 election was decided in Congress).

Previous elections:

1788-89: George Washington (unanimous) - 69 EV

1792: George Washington (unanimous) - 132 EV

1796: John Adams - 71 EV def. Thomas Jefferson - 68 EV
1800: Thomas Jefferson - 73 EV def. John Adams - 65 EV
1804: Thomas Jefferson - 162 EV def. Charles Pinckney - 14 EV
1808: James Madison - 122 EV def. Charles Pinckney - 47 EV
1812: James Madison - 128 EV def. DeWitt Clinton - 89 EV
1816: James Monroe - 183 EV def. Rufus King - 34 EV
1820: James Monroe (unanimous) - 228 EV
1824: John Q. Adams - 84 EV def. Andrew Jackson - 99 EV*

* Neither candidate won the majority in the electoral college. The election was decided in Congress, where Adams beat Jackson 13-7.

Additionally, we take a look at a nominating process through primaries and caucuses. Only the races where the people, not the party bosses were responsible for the selection of the party nominee, were taken into account. So we start with the first "modern" primaries in 1976 and continue to this day.
